New teachers, common mistake

Many new Yoga teachers commonly make a mistake thinking that if they participate in more teacher training or asana workshops they will get better at teaching. They usually will not. And if they would, then only indirectly.

For new teachers, the direct shortcut to ‘getting better at teaching’ is accomplished by:

  1. Yoga and meditation practice, especially self-practice (not in class).
  2. Being a happy, ‘people-oriented’ person.
  3. Teaching many classes, especially to plenty of beginners.

All three points combined. That’s it.

Once someone has been teaching for 2-3 years full time, there is a good learning possibility for learning through continued education, such as workshops, training, mentoring, receiving constructive feedback, etc.

Teach, teach, teach!
